Jackie Chan Biography

Jackie was born on April 7, 1954, in British Hong Kong Kong to Charles and Lee-Lee Chan and they named him Chan Kong-Sang. His parents nicknamed him Chinese Pao-pao which means “cannonball” because of the lively and full energy he was as a child.

The Changs worked at the French Embassy in Hong Kong. Father Chen Zhiping held the position of cook, while mother Lily Chan was a cleaning staff. He was sent to Nah-Hwa Elementary School, but Chan failed in his first year. When the family emigrated to Australia in 1960, the seven-year-old Chan stayed at the China Opera Research Institute. Over the next decade, he strictly learned martial arts and acrobatics along with drama and singing.
